Project 500 has a new name, new brand!

 
 

Why did the name change?

Project 500 started in 2016 with the intent to serve at least 500 New Majority entrepreneurs in three years. In just 18 months we supported 525 high growth businesses in the DMV. Ahead of schedule, we took time to review our work, outputs and outcomes; we wanted to see what the future could hold for us. Thanks to help from Deloitte, we created a strategic plan that allows us to maintain our focus, while expanding our program offerings and geographic reach.

What is the significance of the new name?

In 1863 Congress signed the Emancipation Proclamation. This legislation created a policy change, as well as a cultural shift in the belief that personal freedoms were more important than war. While not all slaves were free until 1865 it is important to acknowledge this policy that changed America and put the freedom of Blacks in motion.

This rebranding of our organization is intended to serve as a reminder of our economic potential and the opportunity to reclaim our power. As slaves our value went uncompensated; now is the time to harness the wealth that belongs to us and our communities.  We look forward to engaging all historically marginalized communities . Native Americans, women, etc. - to create at least $100B of new wealth over the next 10 years.

What is the significance of the new logo?

The logo is the year of the Emancipation Proclamation; it is intended to remind the world of our freedom, that is often ignored in current rhetoric.

The design is futuristic in nature; it repositions our brand as we reclaim our power moving forward into the future becoming the New Majority.

The color blue symbolizes loyalty, strength, wisdom and trust.

Our website is no longer .org but .net to reflect the growth of our community through local, regional and national expansion.

Does anything change about the programs?

Our commitment to accelerate New Majority entrepreneurs from high potential to high growth remains the same. Moving forward we will be much more intentional in bridging the gap between entrepreneurship and equity.

We will promote our members and their work across multiple media channels and via research to change the narrative about the power and potential of New Majority entrepreneurs.

We will remain committed to the DMV region and expand our reach; we will engage entrepreneurs nationally to help expand our community of New Majority wealth builders.
